How to choose a students backpack?

A backpack is a must-have item for your school closet - it will accompany you to class, the gym, late night library marathons and early morning coffee. So it's important to find one that carries everything you need for the whole day, and is comfortable, affordable and stylish.

  • Finding the right backpack size

The first step in buying a students backpack is choosing the right size. A larger bag may hold more supplies and gear, but if it's overstuffed, it may lead to back pain and other problems. If it's too small, you may not have enough room. The best thing to do is try the bag on to make sure it's the right size, compliments your body type, and feels comfortable.

  • Pockets and Features

Think about how much gear you plan to carry and whether you need specific pockets and features. If you have a laptop, you may need a backpack with a laptop sleeve. Some laptops are bigger, so you'll want a bag that fits you.

Having a laptop sleeve in the main pocket is great, but having an extra pocket in the front is more practical. These pockets are great for storing small items like lip balm, house keys and USB drives. Consider organization and function; look for features that make your gear easy to find.

Some bags will have a side pocket or mesh side pocket to hold a bottle. Easy access to water can come in handy when you're on the go.

  • Padded shoulder straps and back

If you have a long school commute, you need a comfortable backpack. Padded shoulder straps and a padded back help eliminate stress. The durability of the shoulder straps will determine how much weight you can carry in the backpack. It is best not to over pack or you may damage the bag.

For extra support, some larger backpacks come with a waist belt. These may come in handy if you are looking for extra support. They can also take some of the weight off your back that can lead to lethargy and poor posture.

  • Backpack VS Shoulder Bag

Carrying a backpack in warm weather is not ideal and can be a hassle on a busy commute. Busy buses and subways are why some people prefer cross body bags or shoulder strap bags. They can be easily removed and reduce sweat buildup.

While convenient, these bags don't provide optimal postural support. Carrying a heavy bag on one shoulder all day can put undue stress on your shoulders and slightly alter your balance. For some people, this may be a good reason to choose two shoulder straps.

  • Colors and patterns

This one is more subjective, but worth considering. It's always fun to have a funky backpack that allows your personality to shine and stand out from the crowd. Wild colors and crazy patterns are perfect for clothes because you can change them often. Backpacks are more of an investment, so if your fashion choices tend to change quickly, maybe stick to something more neutral.

You may also want to consider the fact that lighter colors get dirty more easily, so if you're the type that likes a clean bag or likes to get dirty, we recommend darker shades and colors.

  • How accessible is it?

If you carry essentials with you, make sure your backpack is open wide enough to access them. Being able to pick up your laptop without taking out all your books will save you a lot of time. In most cases, a top-loading backpack or one with a full zipper is easier to access.
